A stranger to golf?

Are you a stranger to golf, meaning you really have no clue about the sport? Have you ever looked over the landscape from the first tee box and wondered what the golf world is all about? If your response is yes, then please read on to become a little more enlightened.

Golf has so many strange words associated with it and the best way to make sense of the jargon is by using the Internet as your resource and searching golfing terms.

When beginning a game of golf, there is something called teeing or tee box, this term is simple to understand, this is the only place a tee can be used. The tee is the large toothpick like object, which is pushed into the ground to create an elevated platform on which you place your ball. The elevation will allow you to hit the ball easier and strike with strength and accuracy. The tee box will have a number of different ones to choose from, we recommend as a beginner you start with the one closest to the hole. Once you have an improved golf skill try the more challenging boxes.

After the tee box you will encounter the fairway, this is a piece of trimmed grass that lies between you and hole location in the green. The length and the bend will vary depending on the type of club, this will become clearer as you get more with the sport. If there is a bend in the fairway in front of you, it is referred to as a dog leg and they can either be found dog leg left or dog leg right depending on the direction of the fairway head.

After clearing the fairway, you will meet the green. The green comprises of very short grass allowing faster rolling. The club to be typically used here is the putter; this provides you with a refined tool that is specifically designed to manage the fast and surging green.  Be aware that the green may contain subtle slopes and dips. The change in the slope is referred to as the break. A good way to maintain a successful swing on the green is to analyse it. Crouch down and try to observe the break by reading the green it could lead to a better score.

Golf can be an intimidating sport to a golfing stranger so ensure you read articles on the Internet to gain a better knowledge. There are many books available showing you the ins and outs of the sport and playing and learning with friends also determines a better understanding. Good Luck!

Common Golfing injuries

Although Golf is a very relaxed sport and many enjoy it to unwind, some people can experience injuries from the game. Some of these injuries will only last a few days then disappear, however in some cases they may be persistent. Here at Golf weekend Break we have compiled a list of common injuries for you to be aware of:

Cramp
With any Sport or exercise you are likely to at times experience cramp. Cramps generally last from 2 – 5 minutes when the muscle suddenly shrinks and then stays stuck. The cause of this is because you have been using the same muscles for sometime, they will tire and cramp up. The cramp also occurs because you are loosing a lot of sweat. When playing Golf, we recommend you drink lots of water to maintain a good supply or moisture. If you experience cramp then stop what you are doing, so the muscle can once again relax and then you are able to carry on hopefully without any further pain. The most common areas that cramp occurs on the body are; the thigh, foot, stomach and hand.

Sore Muscle
Muscle sore occurs when your muscle unfortunately tears or stretches too much. This happens to your external cells and is not really nothing to worry about. With this you may be able to move properly but will feel a sore and pain when you do so. If the pain still occurs after a couple of days, then it is a good idea to visit the Hospital. Although massaging the area can also help greatly.

Muscle pain
When you complete an exercise and have been using the same muscle over and over, you will experience an ache or pain of some kind this is referred to as muscle pain. This pain is not really a deep pain and as soon as you leave it for a while Oxygen will start to circulate once more and you will feel better in time.

Enjoy your Golf and please don’t take this information as a scare tactic, its only to inform you of injuries you may occur and is really nothing serious.

Golf grip and the effect on ball flight

As a golfer or someone interested in Golf, you will know some kind of procedure in how to grip a golf club correctly. However there are usually many opinions on the correct procedure. Instructors, friends, family, whoever cannot actually train you how to this. It all depends on your self-experience and the way you feel best comfortable. Here at Golf weekend Breaks we have compiled a few tips to guide you in how to grip the golf club so that it will have better affect on the ball flight.

Grip is very important when playing Golf, this is because this is the only control you have through your hands and this is the only way that you can hit the ball to get that perfect swing.
We all have different tendency in the way we do things and Golf is the same. Some of us tend to hook the golf ball. If you do this then try the following method:

· With the club in your hand, move both hands towards the left, now ensure your palms are facing, and you are unable to see your knuckles on your left hand.

This will help you to aim better and this way you will have a better grip, in golf jargon
this is often referred to as a ‘weak grip’.

On the other hand if you have a tendency to slice the golf ball, try the subsequent:

· Move your two hands towards the right so you are now able to see the top of one or two knuckles. Both of your pals should be facing each other, you may need to adjust your hand grip slightly to complete this. In Golf jargon, this is referred to as strong grip.

As a tip, the way in which the direction the ball will swing depends on your gip. A loose grip will usually make the ball go off to the left; a tight grip will make it go off to the right.

So there, it is a few pointers to help you. Try having a practice and see the effect on your ball flight. Happy Golfing!
